THE SAHARA

The Sahara is largest desert in the world,1,000 milis from north to south and 3,000 miles from east to west.But you mustn't think of it as a"sea of sand".There are plains of hard sands and plateaus with dried-up watercourses,and there are mountain ranges.Most of th Sahara receives almost no rain at all,and so there are no trees,no flowers,no grass.But there are places with plenty of underground water.Where underground water comes to the surface,there are oases.There yu will find lots of date-palms,and people also grow millet and vegetables.There the tired traveller takes a rest under the shady trees and has a good drink of its clear well water.The Sahara has a very important mineral--oil.This makes the Sahara richand important.

THE FOX AND THE COCK 希腊寓言

One morning a cock was taking a walk.He saw a big tree and sat in it.

Then a fox came.When he saw the cock in the tree,he said to himself.

"It will be nice to have a cock for breakfast."

So the fox went up to the tree and said:

"Good morning,my dear firiend,How are you ?"

"Thand you ,I'm very well."said the cock."How are you?"

"Fine,thank you .Do you know that all animals are friends now?"said the fox.

"The dog and the cat,the cat and the mouse,the fox and the birds---they are all friends now."

"That's very good,very good,"said the cock.

"Won't you come to my house?Let's have breakfast together."

"All right,"said the cock."But i see a dog over there.He is coming toward us.Let's ask the dog to come go our breakfast too."

"A dog?"said the fox."Did you say a dog is coming?Then goodbye."He started to run.

"My dear fox, why are you going?Don't you like the dog?Why are n't all animals friends now? "said the cock.
